First Friday: J-Street

J-Street is a Capital Region-based swing group led by local Lindy Hopper and pianist Josh Fialkoff.

The 4-piece group specializes in music that swings in the styles of Les McCann, Lou Rawls, and Ray Charles with a mix of standards, originals, and songs you never thought you’d dance to. So, bring your dance shoes, your friends, and your friends’ dance shoes and come bust a move with   J-Street. They’ve been changing and evolving into a great dance band and adding to their repertoire.

The RPI Swing Store

Now recently I have been getting asked the question “Where can I get music to listen/practice/dance to?” This has usually led to me naming off several artists and places people  can go to obtain the material yet it has led me to the idea of putting everything in one place.

I give to you the RPI Swing Store which will be continually updated with not only music (MP3 and CD’s), but also posters and books. This will provide people a place where they can not only find music but also expand their knowledge of Lindy Hop. The link to the store is on the right side of the website underneath the Swing Forum link section.

I hope you all enjoy this and if you have any suggestions please feel free to get in touch.

And We’re Back

I hope everyone enjoyed their spring breaks this past week as I know I did. Even though though most of you had amazing times over spring break I also realize that you may not have done a lot of dancing so if you would like to refresh your knowledge or just have a little bit more fun before classes start really going again make sure you come out tonight.  That is right, we are now back to our regular practice and lesson schedule starting tonight (3/16).

I hope to see you all out

Enjoy Spring Break Everyone!!!!

Now that Spring Break is upon us I would just like to wish everyone an enjoyable break from classes and homework. I hope everyone has a great time and hopefully you can find some time in your break to practice some of the things you’ve learned so far this semester.

Now since we are on break just in case people were wondering there will not be any practice on Monday (3/9) or lessons (3/11). Practices and lessons will both resume though the week we get back. Alright well that is all the news for now.

Enjoy break!!!
-Chris
